We believe in encouraging people to become involved with the life and work of their local farms, and our Volunteers Support Groups play a vital role in conservation work, wildlife monitoring and organising events.
On Volunteer Days, which anyone can join, Support Group working parties help with tree and hedge planting, painting gates, clearing scrub, knocking down bracken, pulling ragwort, erecting nest boxes, and other essential (and healthy!) work. While systematic monitoring of animals and plants is essential for demonstrating that our less intensive management systems are benefiting wildlife.
Support Groups also assist with local fundraising and Open Days. Above all taking part in volunteer activities is hugely rewarding; so why not give it a go.

"I have been a member of the Countryside Restoration Trust since it’s early days and I have been a volunteer at Margaret Wood since the Trust acquired it ten years ago. The volunteers meet usually once a month and it is as much a social event as a work day. Another great aspect of volunteering is being able to introduce the next generation to the countryside. My daughters have been coming with me since they were small and I have helped introduce the children of the village school to the wood and they have helped by planting a hedge."
